Welcome to our JBU
Uganda mission trip blog! Whether you
are a family member or friend of one of our trip participants or someone who
just happened to come across this blog, we’re thankful that you’ve taken the
time to read about our trip. My name is
Austin Robertson, and I am a staff member at JBU and one of the trip
leaders. I was previously in Africa as a
part of The World Race and don’t take it for granted that the Lord has opened
the door for me to return. Throughout
the last few years I’ve had students stop by my office and talk about
experiences they’ve had overseas, and hearing their stories brings with it a
flood of emotions and memories from my experiences abroad. I am so excited to be a part of taking this
group of JBU students to Uganda. I know
down the road they will have those same memories of how the Lord used them to
serve in such a unique way. They’ll
remember the faces of the children they held in the orphanage, the lesson they
taught in a crowded Ugandan classroom, and the patient they cared for in the
hospital. They’ll remember the message
they shared in a vibrant church, the cultural differences they saw/heard/smelled/tasted
every single day, and the time their raft flipped on the Nile River. They will grow as individuals and as members
of the team that they share all these moments with. Most of all, I pray they will remember the
goodness and faithfulness of the Lord and his love for people of every nation,
tribe, and tongue. We have so much to
look forward to in the next month! Thank
you for taking the journey with us.
The idea for this
blog is that it will be updated by a member of our team daily. I don’t know if that is a realistic
expectation early in the trip. Our
internet access will likely be very limited in the rural area where we’ll be
staying. However, as often as we can, we’ll
try to get a different student each day to share their experiences with you. Maybe they’ll be able to upload some pictures
and videos as well.
Thank you, again,
for joining us on this journey. Know
that we cherish your prayers. As friends
and family members, I’m sure you will pray for our health and safety, which is
great. However, please pray also that we
might be used in any and every way to serve the Lord well. Pray that we would know Christ more. Pray that others would know Christ more
through him working through us. Pray
that things of eternal value would be accomplished and that we might represent
Christ well as his ambassador to each and every person we meet.
